Preview Vs Subiaco. Saturday (3.00pm) Floreat Athena v Subiaco – E&D Litis Stadium – Referee Tom Glavovic. Floreat Athena moved level with Inglewood in midweek with a 3-0 win against Balcatta, and they have home ground advantage on Saturday when they entertain Subiaco at the E&D Litis Stadium. Subiaco have been the big improvers this season under the guidance of Ian McMurray, and have had big wins against Bayswater and Joondalup United, and with David Perich, Ryan Montgomery and Alex Castiello all having good season, but they have struggled on the road with only two wins on their travels this season. Their game against ECU Joondalup was postponed last week, and they now have two games in hand, but with the bottom of the table so tight they need to keep getting results. Floreat defender Jesse Fuller said the win against Balcatta maintained their good form, and a clean sheet was equally important. “The game was one we knew would be tough, as Balcatta took two points off us in our previous match,” he said. “We had the intention of pressing them early and it worked on our favour with two first half goals. At times we let them back in on the counter, but 3-0 is probably an accurate reflection on the game.” Fuller’s good form was rewarded with a spot in the WA State squad and he said he’s looking forward to the games against the Glory, the young Socceroos and the Singapore under 20’s. “It was a bit of a good surprise to be honest. I feel like my form had been good this year -- especially early on, playing a new position,” he explained. “It's nice to be recognised by other coaches as well, and the state team is something i haven’t been a part of before so I'm looking forward to it.” Fuller is well aware of the improvement in Subiaco, and is expecting another tough game on Saturday. “Subiaco have been doing well, but we try to just focus on what we need to do as a team,” he said. “If we can do that and start strongly, I'm sure we can come away with another positive result.” In team news for Floreat Phil Arnold is suspended, while Mark Pritchard and Zoran Vrteski will be pushing for a starting role. - ...
